How long does the divorce process take?

Every couple's circumstances will be unique and often have it own unique set of disagreements that will need to be fixed in order to reach a resolution. On average, the divorce process takes six to eight months, yet it can last much longer if there is strong disagreement over several matters. Is it true that there is a cooling-off period during the divorce process? Yes, there is a 20-week cooling-off period. Therefore, pursuing what is deemed a “No-Fault Divorce” will take a minimum of six months to achieve. This is even if both partners are amicable and want to achieve the divorce as soon as possible in the shortest amount of time. If there are disagreements in reaching an agreement, the divorce will take often take much longer.
